Prof. A. Paularj (Stanford University)

Dr. Arogyaswami Paulraj is a Professor at the Dept. of Elect. Engineering, Stanford University and Founder / Chief Technology Officer of Beceem Communications Inc.. His research group works in space-time wireless communications and he is a pioneer of MIMO wireless technology.
 
He was the pioneer of military sonar technology in India, developing the world’s leading surface ship sonar. He has also built large parallel computers and wireless systems. He founded three companies: Iospan Wireless - acquired by Intel Corp, Spectrum InfoTech Ltd. - acquired by L&T Ltd, and Beceem Communications, which currently develops WIMAX technology.
 
He is the author of over 350 research papers, two books on wireless communications, and holds 33 patents. Paulraj is a Fellow of the US National Academy of Engineering, the Third World Academy of Sciences, and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. Paulraj has won several awards for his engineering and research contributions; most recent was the 2003 IEEE Technical Achievement Award.

 


 

Prof. A. El Gamal (Stanford University)

Abbas El Gamal received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1972, the M.S. in Statistics and the PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford in 1977 and 1978, respectively. From 1978 to 1980, he was an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at USC. He has been on the Stanford faculty since 1981, where he is currently Professor and Director of the Information Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was on leave from Stanford from 1984 to 1988 first as Director of LSI Logic Research Lab, then as cofounder and Chief Scientist of Actel Corporation. In 1990 he cofounded Silicon Architects, which was later acquired by Synopsys. From 1997 to 2003, he was the principal investigator on the Stanford Programmable Digital Camera project.
 
His research contributions have spanned several areas, including multi-user information theory, digital imaging, and integrated circuit design. He has authored or coauthored over 180 papers and 25 patents in these areas. He is a Fellow of IEEE and winner of Infocom 2004 best paper award.

 



Prof. B. Aazhang (Rice University)

Behnaam Aazhang received his B.S. (with highest honors), M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1981, 1983, and 1986, respectively. He is now the J.S. Abercrombie Professor, and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University, Houston, Texas. In addition, he holds an Academy of Finland Distinguished Visiting Professorship appointment (FiDiPro) at the University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland.
 
Dr. Aazhang is a Fellow of IEEE, a distinguished lecturer of IEEE Communication Society, and also a recipient of 2004 IEEE Communication Society’s Stephen O. Rice best paper award for a paper with A. Sendonaris and E. Erkip. He has been listed in the Thomson-ISI Highly Cited Researchers and has been keynote and plenary speaker of several conferences. Dr. Aazhang is a recipient of the Alcoa Foundation Award 1993, the NSF Engineering Initiation Award 1987-1989, and the IBM Graduate Fellowship 1984-1985. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu.
